Haldighati is one of the prime historical lands that lie within the chain of Aravalli Mountains, located barely 40 km from Udaipur. It is well known as the theatre of the grim Battle of Haldighati. The soil of this land, the color of which looks like the color of turmeric, gave this place its name. The winds seem to whisper over here the stories of the great valor and sacrifice, primarily the legendary Maharana Pratap and his loyal steed, Chetak.

The battle of Haldighati is among the short and defining battles fought on June 21, 1576, between Maharana Pratap of Mewar and Mughal Emperor Akbar's forces. Lest it be only for a measure of four hours, this battle was waged through the fiercest valour of combative bouts on rivalry fields. Though Maharana Pratap showed a brave face, he was finally defeated by Raja Man Singh of Amber in this battle. And the legacy of this battle is not bound only within its conflict, but the spirit of steadfastness both of Maharana Pratap and his horse, Chetak, that would offer up the ultimate sacrifice.
