Historical Significance

The Sargasuli Tower was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Ishwari Singh as a tribute to his victory in the Battle of Rajmahal in 1747. This battle was a significant event in Jaipur's history, marking the end of a fierce rivalry between Ishwari Singh and his half-brother, Sawai Madho Singh.

Maharaja Ishwari Singh's victory was a pivotal moment, and to commemorate it, he decided to build the tallest tower in Jaipur. The design of Sargasuli was inspired by the Qutub Minar and the Kirti Stambh of Chittorgarh, reflecting Ishwari Singh's admiration for these historic structures.

Interestingly, Ishwari Singh is the only Kachwaha Maharaja not commemorated at Gaitor, due to his controversial personal life, including his relationship with a common girl.

Architecture

The Sargasuli Tower is a seven-story octagonal structure, standing at 140 feet tall. It combines elements of Mughal and Rajput architectural styles and is painted in a distinctive yellow hue that contrasts with the pink cityscape of Jaipur.

Designed by the royal craftsman Ganesh Khowan, the tower features a circular staircase with 264 steps, allowing visitors to ascend to the top. From there, panoramic views of the city and prominent landmarks such as Nahargarh Fort, Hawa Mahal, and the City Palace can be enjoyed.
